All the airlines have made it mandatory to do web-check-in before your travel and airlines may charge a fee if you do it from Airline's counter at Airport. Web Check-in is free if done online & for most of the Airlines starts Web Check-in from 24-48 hours before departure and closed 60 minutes before departure.
